Election time is upon us! It is for every Mesa Grande citizen over the age of 18 to vote for representatives of the Mesa Grande Band of Mission Indians’ Business Committee. This election, the General Council has directed that a third party be used to collect the voting and calculate the votes overseen by the Election committee. If you are over the age of 18 recently, it is encouraged you update your address to be sent an absentee ballot. The office can be reached Monday through Friday 8am – 5pm at 760-782-3818 or fax your address to 760-782-0795. Please see below from the California Indian Legal Services:

Dear Tribal Member:

The Mesa Grande Band of Mission Indians’ Election Committee has asked California Indian Legal Services (CILS) to administer this year’s Business Committee election.

There are two ways to vote in this election:

  • Vote by Mail-In BallotEnclosed with this letter you will find a ballot listing the candidates for office and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Please put an “X” in the box next to your candidates of choice. For Chairman and Vice-Chairman, you may only choose 1 candidate. You may select up to 3 candidates for the Business Committee. Ballots returned with extraneous or unclear marks will be considered spoiled and excluded from the final vote count. Completed ballots must be returned to CILS in the enclosed Self Addressed Stamped Envelope by January 8, 2016. Late ballots will not be counted towards the vote.

 

  • Vote in Person

In-person polling will take place on the following date, time and location:

Saturday, January 9, 2016

10:00am to 2:00pm

Santa Ysabel, CA 92070

 

All ballots will remain in the exclusive possession of CILS. In-person voters will be asked to produce valid identification prior to voting. Members are not permitted to vote by mail and in person. Any questions about voting procedures should be directed to CILS at (800) 743-8941. Please note we cannot answer specific questions about the candidates.
